Doxycycline hyclate
Description
Doxycycline belongs to the group of Tetracyclines and acts bacteriostatic against many Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria like Bordetella, Campylobacter, E. coli, Haemophilus, Pasteurella, Salmonella spp., staphylococcus and streptococcus. It is also active against Chlamydia, Mycoplasma and Rickettsia spp. Doxycycline has great affinity to the lungs and is therefore especially useful for treatment of bacterial respiratory infections.
Mode Of Action
The action of doxycycline is based on inhibition of bacterial protein synthesis.
Indications
SentoDoxy 50 % wsp is effective against respiratory and gastro-intestinal infections caused by micro-organisms sensitive for doxycycline, like E. coli, Salmonella, Mycoplasma, Pasteurella, Bordetella, Streptococcus, Campylobacter and Haemophilus spp., in calves, sheep, goats, poultry and pigs.
Contra-Indications
- Do not administer to animals hypersensitive to tetrayclines.
- Do not administer to animals with a serious impaired liver function or an active microbiological digestion.
Side-Effects
None.
Incompatibility with other drugs or substances
Do not combine with bactericidal agents like penicillins and cephalosporins.
Dosage and Administration
For oral administration via drinking water.
Calves, sheep, goats : 2 g per 200 kg bodyweight, twice the first day. Then once daily during 3 – 5 days.
Poultry : 1.5 g per 10 litres of drinking water during 3 – 5 days.
Medicated drinking water should be used within 24 hours.
Withdrawal period
Meat : Calves, sheep, goats : 14 days
Poultry : 5 days
Eggs : 4 days
Storage
Store in a dry and dark place between -2°C and 25°C.
Store in closed packing.
Keep medicine away from children.
